Other than the stress associated with budget and construction, I have had a very nice summer. I started out by chaperoning a group of teenagers on a trip to San Diego to do some work for a local community-based organization. I have done this for the last 5 or 6 years and it is always one of the highlights of my summer. Our society is so quick to judge young people. However, I continue to be amazed by the teens that we take on this trip. I also spent a good part of my summer on home projects. We bought an older “fixer-upper” 12 years ago and we are still fixing it! I always joke with people that I am a combination of ITS and Facilities at home. If I am not fixing the family computer I am working on the house. As much as I complain about it, I enjoy working on the house–it’s a nice break from work and has become something of a hobby for me.
Finally, I took the Fitness Boot Camp taught by Mikel Schmidt at CSM. I did this on a dare by my two daughters who enrolled in the class as well. It was a great class and I am probably in the best shape that I have been in for quite some time. That’s not saying much, unfortunately! I plan to take the class again this fall and I hope to see some of you there at 7:00 am, MWF.
Well, that was my summer. I am sure that many of you did something much more exciting or noteworthy than me. I would love to hear from you!

I think your blog is a great idea. Thanks for the reminder about boot camp. I’ll see you there Monday morning. I wonder if you’ll learn to jump rope this semester
I’m also going to take Tap Dance on Wednesday nights.

I like your blog, Mike! Back in the old days BK (before kids) I used
to do one of those Community Boot Camps. They are great–you’re
all done with your workout and the day hasn’t even started!

Thanks Lucia! It is nice to workout first thing in the morning again. My kids are a bit older now so it is a little easier!
